Ooh…… strong words, Alan! 😉 Of the disappointments, I have no personal experience of the latter two. As for Montcalmes, I have some excellent experiences, of some older vintages, but notably the 2004 and 2005. If I remember correctly, one is a little reticent, whilst the other is showing really quite well. I still have 3 or 4 of each, so will see how they go over the next 5 to 10 years. As for Peyre Rose, I tasted one from the early 90’s recently, which was just fabulous. So I guess they need 20+ years to show their true colours. Which did you taste?

2004 and 2011 Leon. Neither was good, the 04 was brown, tired and just miserable. The 11 was obviously youthful but seemed heavy to me, no freshness or acidity. Maybe that’s the result of so much natural wine 🙂 Montcalmes was OK but nothing more and for the price I could have bought 2 or 3 bottles of wine that I would have enjoyed a lot more, especially at the prices a very generous Nottingham based merchant sells them at 😉
